Mr. Syed Asif Ibrahim

Mr Syed Asif Ibrahim is a former Director, Intelligence Bureau. Having Joined the Indian Police Service in 1977, he has served in several challenging assignments and carries a rich and varied experience in the field of policing and administration.
In his initial years of service, Mr Ibrahim served as the District Superintendent of Police in the dacoit infested areas of Madhya Pradesh. He personally led the operations and was responsible for a number of operational successes, which contributed to the elimination of the dacoity menace.
In 1987, he moved to New Delhi and served in various Ministries in the Government of India including, Railways, Civil Aviation, Tourism and Home Affairs. During the last 30 years, he has held numerous sensitive assignments in the field of counter insurgency and counter terrorism.
Mr Ibrahim has also served as Minister at the High Commission of India, London, during his overseas tenure.
Having held several senior positions pertaining to the gamut of national security, Mr IIbrahim was appointed as the Special Envoy for Counter Terrorism and Extremism (2015-2018), soon after his retirement. As part of this assignment, he liaised with stakeholders in India and abroad on crystalizing counter-radicalization strategies. He has also served on the National Security Advisory Board.
Syed Asif Iibrahim is a Postgraduate in History from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi.
